Nine PSC Students Featured in Statewide Art Exhibition

Chicago Heights, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Nine Prairie State College art students earned a spot in the Illinois Community College Juried Art Exhibition. The exhibition is from March 11 through April 3 at the Governors State University Visual Arts Gallery.

The Illinois Community College Juried Art Exhibition celebrates the creative work of emerging artists throughout the state of Illinois.

PSC students whose works will be on display include Kristin Borst, of Crown Point, Ind.; Michelle D. Cox, of Lansing; Irene Ganas, of Crete; Diana Gudowski, of Munster, Ind.; Bruce Peerson, of Crete; Charles Rohrer, of Homewood; Zachary Sala, of Beecher; Kevin Stewart, of Beecher; and Margaret Werling, of University Park.

Jeremy Biles, of the Chicago Artists’ Coalition and editor of Prompt magazine, is the juror of the exhibition. He surveyed nearly 300 works of art from 17 community colleges throughout Illinois to make his selections. The artwork includes painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and digital media.

“I was very happy to see the juror chose works from PSC that exemplify multiple disciplines such as photography, drawing, painting, and digital media,” said Lou Shields, professor of art history at PSC. “It is also a joy to have our students exhibit with their peers from other institutions. I think that any exhibition opportunity is important for young artists, but one as prestigious as this is just the thing that looks great on a résumé when applying to universities.”

Best of show and awards of merit will be announced at a closing ceremony on April 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. The Governors State University Visual Arts Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information call, (708) 534-4021.
