Chicago Heights, IL–(ENEWSPF)– The Gudowski household has two college students—Diana and her daughter Marissa.

This is the first semester the mother and daughter duo of Dyer, Ind., are enrolled at Prairie State College (PSC) together. Diana has been a part-time student at the college since Fall 2003.

“When my daughter said she wanted to follow in my footsteps and go to Prairie State College, I was so excited because Marissa has always been my biggest supporter,” said Diana.

Diana took one or two classes a semester while working part-time and taking care of her family.  To make more of her college experience, she joined Phi Theta Kappa, the college’s honorary society, and the photography club.

“Prairie State College offered me the flexibility to earn a degree,” said Diana. “The teachers were wonderful, and I enjoyed coming to school. PSC became my second family.”

Now her daughter has become part of that second family. Marissa recently graduated from Lake Central High School, completing her last final in high school and starting her first college class in the same day.

“I went from being a high school senior to a college freshman in one day,” said Marissa. “It was a natural transition for me.”

Even though it’s only been a couple of weeks since Marissa started at PSC, she has adjusted to college life quickly—all because of her mother’s company.

“I enjoy having my mom at PSC with me,” said Marissa. “She’s a mom first, but she’s also my buddy.”

Diana will graduate from PSC in May with an associates degree in photography, while Marissa will continue to take classes towards the college’s dental hygiene program.

“I feel privileged to go to school with my daughter because most mothers and daughters don’t have the opportunity to share in something so special,” said Diana.
