Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- eNews Park Forest is pleased to welcome Steve Garcia as a regular contributor covering Major League Baseball, The Chicago White Sox and Cubs. Steve already sent his first contribution, published here, and we look forward to more as we head toward baseball season.
That’s what this writer chooses to call winter this time around: The Path to Baseball.
Steve is originally from Chicago Heights and has been a resident of Park Forest for the past 11 years. He currently studies Radio/Broadcasting at Illinois Media School, located in Chicago’s South Loop.
“Sports broadcasting was a passion of mine as a child,” Steve says. “However, the desire did not start to manifest until I was encouraged by friends of mine to enroll in a broadcasting course.”
Mr. Garcia says he was hesitant at first to pursue his dream because of a speech impediment, “I grew up with a stutter. I overcame that speech handicap quite a bit with years of speech therapy in school.”
“Shortly after enrolling, a classmate and I started a sports radio show on the school’s internet radio station,” Mr. Garcia says. “In addition to that, as part of the radio show, as well as school projects, I was required to do writing (scripts, commercials, sports updates, etc.), and I noticed that I had a knack for it.”
So Mr. Garcia started writing game recaps and received an internship.
“Writing, in general, was something that I did not envision myself doing, but I absolutely enjoy it and would love to continue doing so as a career.”
Ladies and gentlemen, baseball fans of all ages, we present Mr. Steve Garcia, and look forward to hearing more from him as we travel The Path to Baseball this winter and spring.
