Mayor Emanuel Announces 2016 Budget Schedule

Mayor Emanuel to Hold Town Hall Meetings to Solicit Budget Ideas from Residents; Will Deliver the 2016 Budget Address to City Council on Tuesday, September 22

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–August 24, 2015. Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced today that he will host three town hall meetings next week to discuss the City’s current budget outlook and solicit savings, reform and revenue ideas from residents to assist in the preparation of the 2016 budget.

“In preparing for the introduction of the 2016 budget, I want to ensure the budget represents a collaborative process and reflects input from residents across the City,” said Mayor Emanuel. “As we continue to do the hard work necessary to balance the budget and right the fiscal ship, it is important that we engage with Chicagoans to ensure the City is put on a path of financial sustainability.”

Throughout the budget process, Mayor Emanuel will look for opportunities to hear directly from elected officials, community, faith and labor leaders, and residents to identify fiscally responsible solutions that continue essential investments in Chicago’s neighborhoods and build upon the work already done to right the city’s financial ship. Mayor Emanuel and his finance team have already met with many aldermen at budget working sessions and other meetings to discuss opportunities to cut costs, find efficiencies and raise revenues.

Mayor Emanuel will be joined by his finance team and all members of his cabinet for the three town hall meetings, which will be held at the following locations:

• Monday, August 31: Malcolm X College, 1900 West Van Buren Street
• Wednesday, September 2: South Shore Cultural Center, 7059 South South Shore Drive
• Thursday, September 3: Wright College, 4300 North Narragansett Avenue

Each meeting will start at 6:30pm with doors opening at 5:30pm. Residents will have the opportunity provide their ideas to Mayor Emanuel, the City’s finance team and city leaders. Residents can also provide their ideas via social media during the town hall meetings with the hashtag #ChiBudget2016. City departments and agencies will be in attendance to answer questions related to specific city services.

The ideas and proposals provided by residents, community and labor leaders, and elected officials throughout this process will help to inform Mayor Emanuel’s 2016 budget presentation.

Mayor Emanuel will present the 2016 budget to the City Council on Tuesday, September 22, 2015.
