Chicago, IL—(ENEWSPF)—Marist High School’s student journalists have been recognized for their outstanding work, earning awards in seven categories at the prestigious Scholastic Press Association contest. Competing against top high school publications across the city, Marist’s talented writers, editors, and broadcasters demonstrated excellence in reporting, storytelling, and digital media.

The winning entries highlight the students’ dedication to journalistic integrity, creativity, and in-depth storytelling on issues relevant to their peers and the broader community. The honored works include:

“These awards reflect the hard work and talent of our student journalists,” said Susan Carlson, faculty adviser for Marist’s MHS Media group. “Our students are dedicated to producing quality journalism that informs and engages our school community. It’s an honor to see their efforts recognized on such a competitive stage.”

Faculty Advisor Susan Carlson a Plus for Marist Journalists

Carlson brings a wealth of experience to the program for Marist journalists. A veteran broadcast journalist, she has served in many journalism capacities. She was a radio reporter, morning show anchor, television traffic reporter, and news anchor for major Chicago outlets, including WGN-TV, WBBM-TV, and WMAQ-TV. Her distinguished career includes five local Emmy Awards, an Edward R. Murrow Award, and the Chicagoland Achievement in Radio Award for “Best News Reporter.” Under her leadership, Marist’s student journalists continue to uphold the highest standards of reporting and storytelling.

The Scholastic Press Association contest provides student publications with professional critiques. It also offers expert evaluations in categories such as page design, story layout, photography, and editorial content. Schools nationwide participate to gain insights into improving their publications and celebrate journalistic excellence.
