Chicago Heights, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Four members from the Marian Catholic Class of 2008 signed National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, adding to eight athletes who signed in the early November period.

The current group of signees is headed by IHSA state pole vault champion Mitchell Erickson, who has committed to attend the University of Oklahoma on scholarship. Erickson, who also won the East Suburban Catholic pole vault crown, will try to become Marian’s second multi-time IHSA champion (Casey Taylor, 2003-05 in triple jump) this spring.

Behind strong play on the offensive line, Marian’s football team has made back-to-back IHSA playoff appearances. A pair of seniors making commitments have been key contributors to 12 victories over the last two seasons. John Holzhauser will attend Quincy University and Richard Wilson will continue as a student-athlete at Southern Illinois University.

Additionally, football tight end Dennis Kelly has made a verbal commitment to attend Purdue University as a gray shirt recruit.

In women’s soccer, senior Kasey Cartwright has committed to attend the University of Evansville . In three varsity campaigns, Cartwright has scored 43 goals with 21 assists. As a junior, she was named a Chicago Fire Academic All-State, all-East Suburban Catholic Conference and to All-Area teams for the Illinois Times and Star Newspapers.

Though not actually signing until the April period, more Marian Catholic golfers have made college commitments, including Meg Gilley to Bradley University and Ben Nichele to Butler University.
