Chicago Heights , IL—(ENEWSPF)— Ranking among the best in the Chicagoland area, Marian Catholic High School recently had 89 students named AP Scholars by the College Board in recognition of exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Exams.

Only 17 percent of more than one million students in nearly 15,000 secondary schools who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to merit AP Scholar recognition.

Most of the Marian AP Scholars are members of the Class of 2007, which earned more than $13 million in college scholarships.

Katherine Gray ( Oak Forest ), Elizabeth Nagel (Flossmoor), Kelly O’Shea ( Munster , Ind. ) and Tim Spear (Mokena) qualified for the National AP Scholar Award by earning an average grade of 4 or higher on a 5-point scale and grades of 4 or higher on eight of the exams.

Marian students numbering 31 qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction (average of 3.5 on all exams and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams).

This group includes Thomas Connolly (Mokena), Scott Eckel (Mokena), Christopher Fedinets (Glenwood), Melissa Gergel (Glenwood), Katherine Gray, Kathleen Halpin (Olympia Fields), Melissa Harmon (Crete), Michelle Jelinek (Flossmoor), Michael Kean (Chicago), Michelle Knowski (Tinley Park), Kate Kotora (Steger), Matthew Liesen (Chicago Heights), Caitlin Listro (Crete), Jacquelin Magby (Riverdale), Anna Moorman (Dyer, Ind.), Elizabeth Nagel, Matthew Nix (Olympia Fields), Kelly O’Shea, Michelle Pritchett (Tinley Park), Ryan Reid (Crete), Anthony Rosati (Lansing), Matthew Rossbach (Crete), Annette Ruth (Schererville, Ind.), Julia Schumake (Chicago Heights), Jasmin Simmons (Matteson), Heather Skarvan (Lansing), Tim Spear, Corey White (Homewood), Jared White (Homewood), Michael Whitaker (Olympia Fields) and Donald Ziems (Matteson).

Twenty-three more Marian students earned the AP Scholar with Honor Award with an average grade of 3.25 on all exams and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams.

Marian students include Stefani Djordjevich (Crete), Suzanne Doggett (Chicago Heights), Jeremy Hess (Lynwood), Jacqueline Howard (Matteson), Daniel Kreuger (Matteson), Stephanie Kuersten (Homewood), Mary Lauer (Park Forest), Melissa Locke (University Park), Kathryn Lynch (Chicago), Mary Pat Marvinac (Orland Park), Alan Maziur (South Holland), John McDonough (Homewood), Emily McMahon (Chicago), Belinda Merkelis (Calumet City), Raquel Mezzich (Midlothian), Laurence Moss (Country Club Hills), Dominic Ortigara (Tinley Park), Richard Rogers (Tinley Park), Cameron Ruiz (Park Forest), Timothy Stanis (Hammond, Ind.), Stephanie Szotek (Tinley Park), Alexander Tolish (Class of 2008, Flossmoor) and Michael Tuttle (2008, Chicago Heights).

Finally, 35 Marian students earned the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more exams with grades of 3 or higher.
