Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— The League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area was honored to co-host the state convention of the League of Women Voters of Illinois at the Holiday Inn in Matteson. The convention was held Friday, June 22 and concluded Sunday, June 24. Delegates from all over the state met to learn about Illinois state government, adopt policy positions, and plan the future direction of the state organization. Highlights of the weekend included Park Forest’s own Barbara Moore being one of two winners of the Carrie Chapman Catt award for leadership in one’s league and one’s community. Park Forest League of Women Voters President Judy Lohr said the Carrie Chapman Catt award is the most prestigious award the League gives.

There was a lively discussion of the state’s role vis a vis immigration, and an enlightening talk by State Senator Debbie Halvorson. US Representative Jesse Jackson, Jr. also gave a very moving speech.

Many local Leaguers volunteered to make this event a success — and to put Chicago’s Southland "on the map!" Mary Lubertozzi, Judy Lohr, and Penny Shnay deserve thanks and accolades for seeing that there were trained volunteers for each job and that the volunteers were well-fed!
