Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Village Manager Tom Mick gave a report at Monday’s meeting of the Village Board outlining upcoming events and observations in town. There will be a Haunted House in addition to other Halloween activities. The Halloween events begin this weekend with a Family Fun Fest.

October Family Fun Fest & Safe Halloween

Starting this weekend, a whole slate of fun events will take place with a Halloween theme. The events are as follows:

Family Fun Fest

This coming Saturday, the Recreation & Parks Advisory Board will be hosting a Fall Fest in Somonauk Park. Festivities from 1 to 4 PM will include a chili cook-off, music, hayrides, a bonfire with smores, a scavenger hunt and pumpkin painting. Also, the South Suburban Special Recreation Association will be coordinating a Trunk or Treat.

Safe Halloween

On Halloween, there will be a candy walk from 3 to 4:30 PM at businesses in Downtown Park Forest. There will also be a costume contest for little ones starting at 4:15 PM.

Haunted House

Last but certainly not least, the Haunts Against Hunger Haunted House will be open starting this coming Friday. Hours of operation for the Haunted House will be

  • 7 to 10 PM on Friday evening
  • 6:30 to 10 PM on Saturday evening
  • A soft scare on Sunday afternoon from 1 to 3 PM followed by full blown scares and screams from 6:30 to 9 PM on Sunday evening
  • 6 to 9 PM on Halloween

November is Resident Appreciation Month

The month of November will be Resident Appreciation Month. Numerous events are planned including raffles to win $50 credits to residential water bills, a hot chocolate bar in the lobby of Village Hall, and more. Park Forest residents can find all the details on the Village web site or by checking water billing inserts which should have come in the mail this past weekend.

Veterans Day Program

The Park Forest Veterans Commission Day program will take place on Saturday, November 10th beginning at Noon at Freedom Hall. The program will celebrate and recognize those women and men who served in the US Armed Forces. Festivities will include a static display of military vehicles out on the lawn of Freedom Hall between 11 AM & Noon. Vehicles will range from contemporary Humvees and 5-tons to vehicles dating back to Vietnam, Korea and before. At Noon, the program will begin in Manilow Theater with Army Colonel Nick Johnson providing insights on Veterans Day in addition to a musical performance by the 144th Army Band. High School Football Playoffs

The IHSA state football playoffs start this weekend. Congratulations to Rich East and Crete-Monee for having teams make the playoffs. The Rockets of Rich East will hit the road to downstate, Illinois to take on Marion High School in the 5A bracket while the Warriors from Crete-Monee will also head south for a playoff game in Bloomington against Bloomington High School in the 6A bracket.

Financial Update

Village Officials will convene a Financial Update on Saturday, November 3rd beginning at 8 AM in the Board Room of Village Hall. The meeting is open to the public and residents are invited attend.
