Sertoma Centre Names Laura Gardner Volunteer Services Manager


Laura Gardner Will Lead the New Volunteer Program at Sertoma Centre, Inc. 

ALSIP–(ENEWSPF)–August 28, 2012.  Sertoma Centre, Inc.   Sertoma Centre, Inc. named Laura Gardner as their new Volunteer Services Manager.

In her new role for the Alsip-based not-for-profit, Gardner is responsible for the planning, organizing and implementing all aspects of the volunteer program at Sertoma Centre.  In this position, Gardner will provide leadership and direction to a large number of volunteers.  She will partner with organizations and businesses and promote community outreach.

“Laura’s enthusiasm, creativity and people skills make her a welcome addition to the Advancement Team,” said Amy Chmura, Director of Advancement and Communications. “With her vast knowledge of the various programs at Sertoma Centre, she is the perfect choice to inspire and lead our new volunteer program.”

Gardner has worked in this field of serving individuals with disabilities for more than 20 years. Her most recent experience was working as a consultant for Sertoma Centre where she was able to utilize her immeasurable experience to facilitate various roles as needed by the agency.  She also served as the Director of Community Program Support for Sertoma Centre for several years.   Gardner’s prior experience includes Director of Resident Services at Franciscan Village in Lemont, IL and Employment Services Manager with Cornerstone Services in Joliet, IL.  Gardner holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Western Illinois University and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Governors State University. 

“I am really happy to be back working at Sertoma Centre and in this new position as volunteer coordinator.  Gardner has two children and enjoys spending time with family. When Laura is not at work, she is fond of reading all types of books and scrapbooking.
