Senator Kirk Calls on FBI to Assist with Cyberattack on Illinois Voter Information


Cyberattack on Personal Information of Nearly 90,000 Suspected to be of Foreign Origin

WASHINGTON –(ENEWSPF)–September 1, 2016.   U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) today sent a letter to FBI Director James B. Comey following a cyberattack on personal information on nearly 90,000 Illinois voters. The letter calls on the FBI to coordinate with the Illinois Board of Elections to ensure Illinois voter information is protected from future attacks.

“I have been working with Governor Rauner to monitor this data hack and ensure transparency for Illinois residents affected,” said Senator Kirk. “Now I am asking Director Comey to work with the Illinois Board of Elections to find the source of this cyberattack and reassure victims that we are taking every step necessary to protect Illinois voters from future attacks.”
