Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–February 2, 2016. Today, Representative Jan Schakowsky released the following statement after voting against a Republican effort to override the President’s veto of a reconciliation bill that would repeal the Affordable Care Act and defund Planned Parenthood:
“It is fitting that on Groundhog Day, House Republicans voted for the 63rd time to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act and for the 12th vote to attack women’s health this Congress. These continued attacks on access to affordable health care and women’s health have been a consistent hallmark of this out of touch Republican Congress.
“The vote to override the President’s veto is being used by Republicans to demonstrate the difference between the two political parties and what they stand for. This difference could not be starker.
“Republicans have consistently taken action to strip away health care from millions of Americans, undoing the progress our nation has made to increase access to affordable, quality health care. They have also voted time and again to take our nation back decades by defunding Planned Parenthood, which would severely limit women’s access to health care services, including family planning, abortions and cancer screenings.
“As the Ranking Member of the Republican-created Select Panel to Attack Women’s Health, I will continue to stand up to these unfounded Republican attacks against Planned Parenthood based on deliberately doctored videos. Last week, a Texas grand jury found no evidence of any wrongdoing by Planned Parenthood and instead indicted the two individuals behind the tapes. Yet, baseless attacks against women continue.
“This endless cycle of repeat would be a disaster for women and working families across this country. While today’s vote upheld the President’s veto, we know there will be more efforts to attack women’s health. All the progress that we have fought to gain is at stake. I will continue to push for more access to affordable health care and women’s health services.”
