Park Forest Commission Appointments to Be Made in January

Sixteen positions remain open for appointment; volunteers sought

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Mayor John A. Ostenburg will be appointing approximately 33 Park Forest residents to terms on various volunteer boards and commissions when the Village Board meets for its first Regular Meeting of the new year on January 11. He also will be appointing 20 individuals to serve as chairpersons and vice chairpersons for those bodies.

A vote by the entire Village Board is required to confirm the mayor’s appointments. Counting those whose terms are not up for re-appointment in 2010, approximately 100 residents serve on the volunteer bodies.

Most of the 2010 appointments are for three-year terms and are re-appointment of persons already serving. However, a few will be replacement appointments to fill vacancies and will be for a shorter duration. The terms of chairpersons and vice chairpersons are for only one year.

According to Mayor Ostenburg, volunteers still are being sought for appointment to 16 openings on the various bodies. He said several applications are on hand but he always seeks to have as large a pool to select from as possible.

Vacancies still to be filled include one spot each on the Beautifications Committee, the Commission on Human Relations, the Housing Authority, and the Plan Commission. Three openings each exist for the Cable Communications Commission and the Environment Commission, and four openings remain for the Parks & Recreation Board. The three review boards — the Equal Employment Opportunity Review Board, the Fair Housing Review Board, and the Zoning Board of Appeals — have two openings. Appointees serve in all three capacities for those bodies since they only meet when need requires.

Applications for appointment to volunteer boards and commissions may be obtained by visiting the Village website at www.villageofparkforest.com and clicking on the "Administration" link at the far left side. Then, click on the "Boards and Commissions" link at the bottom of the listing. At the top of the next page will be an application for appointment.
