On International Women’s Day, Chicago Women Workers Celebrate Victory Against Sexual Harassment

Chicago, IL –(ENEWSPF)–March 9, 2017.  More than 50 child care providers, caregivers and house cleaners gathered Wednesday evening to speak out against the pervasive problem of sexual harassment in their work.

Although the Illinois Domestic Workers Bill of Rights now offers the state’s first-ever sexual harassment protections for household workers, domestic workers said President Trump’s misogyny is worsening sexual violence and putting women workers at risk.

“As a survivor of sexual harassment, I would not want any of my peers to feel the way that I do,†says Diane Grissett, a Latino Union member who worked to pass the Bill of Rights. “It is hard to face it day after day. We need training on how to respond when things like this occur.â€
