Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Between April 23 and 29, the Park Forest Fire Department activity report shows the PFFD had a total number of 67 responses. Of these, 17 were for fire/service, 50 were for EMS services.
The report from the PFFD follows:
On Monday, May 1, the career members completed drivers training. In these training sessions, members reviewed safe driving techniques and completed a road course using defensive driving techniques.
On Tuesday, May 2, the shift participated in live burn scenarios. These scenarios were done for the three Rich Township High School forensic classes.
On Wednesday, May 3 and Thursday, May 4, members completed SCBA training using the SCBA maze at the training site. This training allowed members to demonstrate the use of the SCBA in conditions of obscured visibility while exiting through areas with restricted openings in emergency situations.
On Friday, May 5, career members completed patient drags. This allowed members to practice techniques of removing a victim form an immediate hazard. This included techniques for moving a conscious victim up and down stairs and moving a victim down a ladder.
On Friday evening, POC division members completed hose training. This training included pulling and packing of attack lines and common hose rolling techniques.
Fire Prevention Bureau Activities
On Saturday, shift members participated in a community block party at Central Park. This community block party is designed to encourage smaller block parties throughout the village and assist the organizers in identifying contacts for activities for their specific block parties.
On Tuesday, the Fire Chief attended the South Cook County-EMS meeting. This meeting brings together providers within South Cook County to discuss issues, policies and similar topics. One key topics was the increasing need for Narcan to battle opiate overdoses; especially those mixed with Fentanyl and Ketamine. The system will be increasing the availability of Narcan to assist paramedics in managing these overdoses.
Tuesday evening, Fire Department Administration presented the proposed fire department budget for 2017/2018 to the Village Board. This presentation focused on the overall budget and various allocations, capital projects, vehicle replacement and challenges being faced by the department now and into the future.
On Wednesday, the Fire Chief attended the monthly SouthCom operating committee meeting. This meeting focuses on issues facing the dispatch service including technology, policies, software, hardware and other communication processes. SouthCom is charged with receiving calls and dispatching units from the 4 SouthCom communities of Matteson. Olympia Fields, Park Forest and Richton Park.
Also this week numerous department members participated in wellness screening coordinate by the Village’s health insurance provider. These screenings attempt to keep the employee aware of any potential health issues and help to keep the Village’s health insurance costs down.
