Congresswoman Duckworth Statement on 4th Anniversary of President Obama’s Deferred Actions for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Initiative

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–August 15, 2016.  Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) issued the following statement regarding today’s fourth anniversary of the implementation of President Obama’s Deferred Actions for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) initiative:

“After years of Republican leaders in Congress refusing to fix a broken immigration system and failing to support the common-sense DREAM Act, our nation began implementing President Obama’s DACA initiative to uphold a simple American ideal: we do not punish children for the actions of their parents. Four years later, this initiative allows young people who know no other country but the America they were raised in to contribute more fully to our society, driving us forward.”

“Congress must act to make DACA the law of the land so it cannot be overturned by a future President. As an original cosponsor of the bipartisan ENLIST Act to allow undocumented immigrants who were brought to this country as children to earn a green card by serving honorably in the U.S. Military for at least 5 years, I continue to believe immigration reform can provide opportunities for our businesses, make Americans safer, reunite families and let millions of individuals who are willing to make the necessary sacrifices achieve the American dream. I’ll keep working to enact responsible, comprehensive solutions to fix our immigration system.”
