Chicago Park District App Reaches Download Milestone

Mobile app keeps Chicagoans informed about Park district events

This is a user-submitted story.

Chicago-(ENEWSPF)- The Chicago Park District’s mobile app, MyChiParks, has been downloaded 100,000 times making it the most downloaded municipal app. The application, launched in May 2015, keeps users informed about Night Out in the Parks events happening in Chicago’s 77 community area throughout the year.

The MyChiParks app is a tool for Chicago residents to stay informed about Night out in the Parks events happening in their neighborhoods and across the city. Night out in the Parks events started as arts and culture series that only took place in the summer, starting in 2013. Recently the program expanded beyond summer, and goes year round. Night out in the Parks events include Movies in the Parks, theater, music, family fun, festivals and dances.

“The MyChiParks app is a valuable tool for regular Park visitors and for people who are just looking for something to do in their neighborhood or around the city” said Chicago Park District CEO and General Superintendent Michael P. Kelly. “100,000 downloads is a big milestone for us and I couldn’t be prouder of the people who made this app happen and the people who keep the app running.”

Users can download the app through the Google Play store or the Apple App store. Once on their phone, users can browse the more than 1000 events happening around the city. Users can also connect their Park Points account to the app. Park Points is a rewards points program that give users points for attending Night out events. Users use these points to bid on prizes that range from boat tours to concert tickets.

The Chicago Park District partnered with DigitasLBi to make the MyChiParks app and for other Night Out in the Parks marketing campaigns. In 2015 DigitasLBi won two Chicago Interactive Marketing Awards (CIMA), Best Local Chicago campaign and Best Chicago Community Outreach Program, for their work with the Chicago Park District and Night Out in the Parks.

As a special thank you to MyChiParks app users, the Chicago Park District is offering 500 Park Points for free. Users need only enter the code “MYCHIPARKS” in your account to receive the reward. If you are not a Park Points member, you can sign up at chiparkpoints.com, new users receive 1000 points for signing up.
