Government Transformation Act Creates Independent Panel to Recommend Improvements in Efficiency, Effectiveness, Credibility
WASHINGTON, D.C.–(ENEWSFP)–July 18, 2013. U.S. Senator Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) today announced his introduction of the Government Transformation Act of 2013, S. 1297, a bill that creates an independent, bipartisan commission to target inefficient and wasteful federal programs and provide specific recommendations to Congress to enhance efficiency, effectiveness and credibility.
“We should not underestimate the potential of a streamlined, well-run government,” Senator Kirk said. “My bill will save taxpayers money by reducing government waste and inefficiency. We can do more for our citizens by rooting out excessive spending, and this bill provides us that opportunity.”
The legislation:
- Creates an independent, seven member, government transformation commission that collects information in order to make specific, actionable recommendations to Congress, the President and Federal agencies
- Directs recommendations to focus improving program evaluation, effectiveness, efficiency, consolidation, reform and best practices
- Is part of a bipartisan initiative called “Make Government Work,” created by the nonprofit group No Labels. No Labels is dedicated to finding common-sense solutions aimed to promote cooperative problem solving. In January 2013, No Labels unveiled a group called “Problem Solvers,” a bipartisan coalition of 81 House and Senate members, of which Senator Kirk is a member.
