This morning, Congresswoman Robin Kelly, vice chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, took to the House Floor demanding action to prevent another school shooting like yesterday’s at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL.

On the House floor, she said, “on a day when school children should be thinking about baseball tryouts, prom and college selections, again they head to school living the reality that a gun may strike them down at any moment.”

She also pointed out that this tragedy is America’s 18th school shooting in just 44 days.

In her speech, she challenges her colleagues, especially those who were the victims of another mass shooting last year in Alexandria, VA: “do you remember the terror you felt as grown men on that baseball field?”

In closing, she dug into the root of the issue: the millions that the gun lobby pours into Republican campaign accounts to prevent any common sense action to save American lives. She said, “despite your words, your prayer, you have proven over and over that you don’t care about anyone but yourselves and your contributions.”
