CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–January 26, 2017. In 2016, 1% of Chicago arrestees had a lawyer at any station at any point of their up-to-3 days in custody even though 100% had that right.
While unacceptably minuscule, this statistic does mean that we are making a difference! The rate of access to counsel in CPD stations is up 5 times what it was in 2013.
2013: .2%
2014: .3%
2015: .6%
2016: 1.0%
