Des Moines, Iowa –(ENEWSPF)– Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) will return to Iowa on Saturday for the first time since the 2016 election. He will deliver the keynote speech at the Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Action Fund (CCI Action) convention “Revolution Iowa – From Protest to Power.”
In addition to Sanders, the all-day conference will feature Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza; issue-focused organizing workshops lead by Tom Philpott (Mother Jones magazine), Bree Carlson (People’s Action), Judith Le Blanc (Native Organizers Alliance) and others.
People’s Action is co-sponsoring the convention. People’s Action is a national network of organizations in 29 states and more than a million people. “Revolution Iowa” is one of many “Protest to Power” events being organized from coast to coast.
“What’s happening in Iowa and across the country is more than a resistance. It’s an insistence that now is the time for a movement politics that goes beyond defense, and instead organizes tens of thousands of people to run for office,” said George Goehl, co-director of People’s Action.
“These are candidates running on an agenda that puts people and the planet before abusive corporations and their bought-and-paid-for politicians,” said Goehl.
