Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)—October 21, 2011. The Village of Park Forest, long known as the original ‘GI Town’ has not forgotten its heritage. Each year around the Veteran’s Holiday, the Village hosts a Military Recognition ceremony. This ceremony serves two distinct purposes.

The first is to honor and recognize any local service men or women who are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces and might be in harms way. The ceremony salutes these individuals and also acts as a support mechanism to family members who live every day with the concerns that come with a loved one who is serving abroad in the U.S. Military.

The second and equally important purpose of the Military Recognition Event is to offer appreciation for any local Veterans who might be in attendance.

The 2011 Military Recognition Event is scheduled to take place on Monday, November 7 at 6 p.m. in the Board Room of the Park Forest Village Hall, 350 Victory Drive. All residents are encouraged to attend.

Park Forest residents who have family currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces are encouraged to call Village Manager Tom Mick at 708-748-1129 so that they can be properly recognized.
