Park Forest Environment Commission Announces Earth Week 2018 Events

The Park Forest Environment Commission has announced its Earth Week events to take place April 14 – 22. The schedule is as follows:

April 14

Gardening Series: Basic Beginning Gardening 2: What’s the difference between annual/perennial, or raised bed vs. digging in the ground? Also basic tools. 10:30 a.m.
Wetland Discovery Center, 30 N. Orchard Drive

Opening of the Earth Week Recycle Exhibit Artwork to be displayed from the public accepted starting April 10th.
Salon Artists Gallery, 294 Main Street

Tom Nielson, award-winning satirical and social commentary singer, performs at 7:30 p.m.
$15 donation requested.
Edgar’s Place Coffee House inside Trinity Lutheran Church, 2901 Western Avenue

April 15

Tom Nielson performs at 10 a.m.
Trinity Lutheran Church, 2901 Western Avenue

April 16

Peace Service held at the Peace Pole at 6 p.m.
Park Forest Police Department, 200 Lakewood Blvd.

April 17

Gardening Series: Know-Maintenance Gardening: the newest way to garden sustainably at 7 p.m.
Wetlands Discovery Center, 30 N. Orchard Drive

April 18

Tom Nielson performs at 2 p.m.
Prairie State College Heritage Room, 202 S. Halsted, Chicago Heights

At Peace with the Earth: A Blessing Ceremony. A guided tour of the new Village Green will be at
6:30 p.m. and community ceremony will begin at 7 pm.

April 19

Gardening Series: Rain Gardens: Keep water out of the sewer and in your plants at 7 p.m.
Wetland Discovery Center, 30 N. Orchard Drive

Tom Nielsen, Peace as an Environmental Issue at 6:30 p.m.

April 20

Tree Planting Ceremony in the memory of Katherine Armstrong, former Village Trustee and Environment Commission member at 2 p.m.
Park Forest Dog Park, 218th Street and Wildwood

April 21

Earth Day at Thorn Creek Nature Center, 247 Monee Road:  Wild Water 1-4 pm

Gardening Series: Build a Bird House: Learn how to attract birds to your yard, decorate a birdhouse to keep at 12 p.m. Location: Wetland Discovery Center, 30 N. Orchard Drive

April 22

Earth Day Closing Ceremony from 1 to 4 p.m.
Refreshments to be provided.
