Park Forest Area League of Women Voters to Host Meeting on Charter School Study on Tuesday, October 21

Park Forest, IL –(ENEWSPF)–October 8, 2014– The League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area will host a meeting to provide information on the state League study of the management of charter schools on Tuesday, October 21 at 7:00 PM at the Park Forest Public Library, 400 Lakewood Boulevard in Park Forest.

Ann Courter, Co-Chair of the State LWV Charter School Study Committee will speak and present an informational slide show.  The topics will include issues of evaluation and accountability, transparency, and funding for charter schools in Illinois. Questions being considered are: What standards do charter schools need to meet?  Who establishes them?  How are they funded?  Do they have to follow state laws?  To whom do they report?   Do voters have any say in charter schools?  Are charter schools still public schools?

The meeting is open to the public and anyone interested in the topic is encouraged to attend to learn more about issues related to oversight and accountability for charter schools.
