Park Forest Area League of Women Voters Hosts Meeting on Lake Michigan Issues on Wednesday, November 13, 2013

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)–October 31, 2013. The League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area will host an educational meeting on the topic of issues facing Lake Michigan on Wednesday, November 13, at 7:00 PM at the Park Forest Public Library, 400 Lakewood Boulevard in Park Forest.

This program will be about the threats and opportunities for Lake Michigan. Henrietta Saunders, President of the Lake Michigan League of Women Voters, will be the speaker. The Lake Michigan League of Women Voters is an Inter-League Organization made up of the local Leagues of Women Voters within the Lake Michigan watershed and/or regional planning areas. LMLWV works to educate the public on the problems of Lake Michigan and the Great Lakes; encourage public participation in planning for the protection and restoration of the Great Lakes; support scientific research for the Great Lakes; and encourage shoreline management planning and implementation.

LMLWV also just received, with the LWVIL Education Fund, a grant from the state of Illinois to implement a campaign to educate citizens about problems associated with storm water runoff, emphasizing action that individuals, communities and regions may take to prevent and alleviate flooding after rain storms, with an emphasis on green infrastructure, and the speaker will provide an update on that project as well.

The meeting is open to the public and anyone interested in the topic is encouraged to attend to learn more about this important issue.
