Park Forest Area and Homewood Flossmoor Area Leagues of Women Voters to Host Meeting on Agriculture Issues

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)–February 11, 2014–The Leagues of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area and Homewood-Flossmoor Area will host an educational meeting on “What’s in Your Food?” and other Agriculture issues being studied by the League of Women Voters of the U.S. The meeting will be held on Saturday, February 15 at 10 am at the Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway in Homewood.

Are you concerned or at least interested in food safety issues? Do such treatments of food as genetically modified organisms (GMO), antibiotics in livestock, use of pesticides and herbicides concern you? Do you support crop subsidies? These, and many other related topics, are being examined by the LWVUS Agriculture Study Committee. Shari Latash, a member of the LWVUS study committee and also a member of the Glenview League, will be the speaker. The Agriculture Study focuses on 1) current technology issues, including food production, agriculture water pollution and aquifer depletion, and 2) current agriculture finance issues, such as crop subsidies and crop insurance.

The meeting is open to the public and anyone interested in the topic is encouraged to attend to learn more about this important issue.
