One-Of-A-Kind National Conference For Families And Friends Who Have Lost A Loved One To Drug Overdose

CALIFORNIA—(ENEWSPF)—September 9, 2014. Broken No More www.broken-no-more.org, a leading nationwide parent advocacy support group for drug policy reform, in partnership with the Drug Policy Alliance www.drugpolicy.org, will be convening our 2nd biannual GRASP (Grief Support After a Substance Passing) www.grasphelp.org Conference and Retreat in Tampa, Florida September 11-14th, 2014.

Background

Lost in the publicity about the exponential rise in drug overdose deaths are families devastated by the loss of a loved one in this most tragic and stigmatizing way. Broken No More is bringing together those who have lost a loved one to overdose with national experts in grief recovery, drug policy reform, and overdose prevention.

About Broken No More

Broken No More is a nonprofit organization founded in 2010 by families and friends of people with substance use disorder who have lived the trauma of addiction with their loved ones and have seen first hand the devastating results of addiction and overdose deaths. It was formed with the hope that more enlightened drug policies may help stem the tide of addiction and overdose.

Broken No More oversees GRASP’s growing nationwide network of almost sixty peer-led bereavement support groups in twenty six states.

Uniqueness Of Broken No More And GRASP

What distinguishes Broken No More from other parent support organizations is that we offer a desperately needed service–stigma-free grief support–and the potential for this population to advocate for drug policy reform by providing them with specific roles they can play to influence policy change.

In the past four years as overdose deaths skyrocketed, Broken No More has contributed to the shift in the national conversation about public health responses to overdose prevention and trained GRASP members who testified and/or were actively involved in media campaigns resulting in the passage of impactful overdose prevention legislation in almost a dozen states so far.

The Conference And Retreat

Every two years we offer people in this previously faceless community of friends and families a one-of-a-kind opportunity to come together for a weekend of healing and connection.

If you have suffered this loss and would like to learn more about healing and drug policy reform, you are invited to join us. You can find more information about our conference at http://grasphelp.org/2014-retreat/.
