Human Rights Campaign PAC Endorses Lieutenant Gov. John Garamendi For U.S. Congress

Washington, D.C.–(ENEWSPF)– The Human Rights Campaign PAC, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, announced today the endorsement of Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi for U.S. Congress. Garamendi is a strong supporter of marriage equality for same-sex couples and has been a vocal critic of Proposition 8, which stripped away state marriage rights last November. Garamendi is running in the November 3, 2009, special election for California’s 10th Congressional District.

“The Human Rights Campaign is proud to endorse Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi, a champion for the LGBT community, as the next U.S. Congressman from California’s 10th district,” said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. “With his 34 years of public service, John will continue his leadership on issues critical to our community: repealing Proposition 8; ending the ban on gay and lesbian service members in the military; passing inclusive workplace policies and repealing the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act. Our community stands with him as he moves into the homestretch of this important election.”

“I am honored and proud to earn the support of Human Rights Campaign,” said Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi, candidate for California’s 10th Congressional District. “The Human Rights Campaign is doing outstanding work and their endorsement clearly indicates to the people of the 10th district my life-long commitment to equal rights.”

John Garamendi is the 46th Lieutenant Governor of California. Garamendi graduated with a Bachelors Degree in business from the University of California at Berkeley, where he was an outstanding scholar-athlete. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. To learn more visit: www.Garamendi.org.
