Funkadesi at Freedom Hall, February 20, 2010

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– On February 20, 2010, Freedom Hall will present Funkadesi, the Chicago area’s premier World Music band who were selected as The Chicago Reader’s 2008 “Best World Music Group”. Funkadesi fuse Latin, African, and contemporary funk into a high-energy, uplifting show for all ages and backgrounds.

Funkadesi proudly hails from Chicago, representing the diverse multi-ethnic communities within the region. What distinguishes Funkadesi as a group is each band member’s unique and uncompromised cultural/musical contribution merging to create one unifying sound and vision. With their not-to-be-missed live shows and visible racial and musical diversity, the band is ideally suited for the intimate setting of Freedom Hall’s Nathan Manilow Theatre. Funkadesi’s one-world sound, roots-watering vision, and positive vibe make the band a unique and compelling musical force.

The 5-Time Winner of The Chicago Music Awards, Funkadesi is capturing the attention of the U.S. and the rest of the globe. Funkadesi has been hailed by Time Magazine, and even caught the attention of (then) U.S. Senator Barak Obama who notes: "Funkadesi really knows how to get a crowd going. I can’t say enough how energizing this band is. There’s a lot of funk in that desi!"

"Funkadesi bears messages of togetherness… The rhythms of Indian Ragas and reggae have striking similarities, while the Latin, African and contemporary funk that’s spicing this one-sound, many-voices stew fits the all-world melange to a tee. Whatever your background, there’s music here for you." -Geoff Chapman, Toronto Star
