Chicago Alderman Joe Moore Accepting Donations of water for Flint, Michigan, Today, Tues., Jan. 26

CHICAGO–(ENEWSPF)–January 26, 2016

By: Alderman Joe Moore

I apologize for the last-minute notice, but a friend just notified me he is driving a truck to Flint, Michigan, tomorrow morning  and offered to transport water to the residents of that city, who have been affected by the city’s contaminated water supply. I quickly accepted his kind offer to help those in need.

We will be accepting  bottled water TODAY ONLY (Tuesday, January 26th), from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at my 49th Ward Service Office, 7356 N. Greenview (at Jarvis).

My office staff reached out to the City of Flint and confirmed they still have a pressing need for fresh bottled water and are gratefully accepting donations. To adhere to safety codes, however, the City asks that all donations observe the following guidelines, which allow the volunteers to transport the water safely and efficiently:

The following items are acceptable:

  • Full cases of commercially packaged water (no loose bottles)
  • Commercially sealed gallon (or larger) containers of water
  • All containers must have an expiration of at least 6 months in the future

The following items will not be accepted:

  • Loose bottles
  • Canned water
  • Containers with open/broken seals
  • Carbonated water
  • Flavored water
  • Water with an expiration date before August 1, 2016.

To enable us to operate our office efficiently today, we ask that you restrict the time of your donations to between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. tonight. However, if that is simply not possible, please feel bring your donations of packaged water to my office anytime today. Unfortunately, we cannot accept any donations of water after today (Tuesday, January 26th).

Thank you for helping those in need.
