‘Away From Her’ Film Screening and Discussion at Governors State University on April 2

University Park, IL—(ENEWSPF)—March 26, 2014. Governors State University (GSU) will host a screening and discussion of Sarah Polley’s heartrending film, ‘Away from Her.’ The event will begin at 6 p.m. in GSU’s new screening room, F1622, on the University’s main campus, 1 University Parkway, University Park.

‘Away from Her,’ is an adaptation of Alice Munro’s masterful short story, “The Bear Came Over the Mountain.” The story is drawn from her collection entitled “Hateship, Courtship, Loveship, Marriage.” The story speaks to the devastating impact of Alzheimer’s on a long marriage and was nominated for two Academy awards.

Following the film screening, Christopher White (Faculty, English) and Daniel Nearing (faculty, Independent Film and Digital Imaging) will speak to the relationship of the film to the short story and about Alice Munro and her Nobel Prize-winning body of work. The book is GSU’s current selection for One Book, One University.

The event is free and open to the public.
