Clinton Announces Plan to Ensure Small Businesses in Illinois Get Paid Promptly and Completely, Crack Down on Big Businesses that Take Advantage of Them
Atlantic City, New Jersey–(ENEWSPF)–July 7, 2016. Following Hillary Clinton’s speech in Atlantic City Wednesday on Donald Trump’s failed business record, the campaign has outlined new small business policies that Clinton is proposing to crack down on bad business actors like Trump and to protect small businesses and workers in Illinois. As Clinton said last month, “Ordinary Americans and small businesses . . . did work for Trump and never got paid . . . not because he couldn’t pay them, but because he could stiff them.” Clinton believes it’s outrageous when big businesses like Donald Trump’s build their fortunes by repeatedly stiffing the small businesses that work for them.
That’s why Clinton’s plan would:
- Enhance legal protections for small businesses that are repeatedly stiffed by large firms and give them better tools to protect themselves against predatory behavior by large companies.
- Use the leverage of more than $400 billion in federal government contracting to encourage businesses to pay their suppliers in full and on time.
- And expand working capital for small businesses so they can thrive and grow, and weather difficulties when larger customers stiff them or do not pay on time.
In Illinois, proposals would provide new protections and support to Illinois’ 250,000 small businesses and their nearly 2.5 million employees. These proposals are part of her plan to fight for the largest investment in good-paying jobs in her first 100 days in office, one of her five major goals for our economy.
In her Atlantic City speech yesterday, Clinton decried Trump’s long record of leaving a wake of destruction among small businesses, working families and communities where his companies had a presence, saying that Atlantic City “says everything you need to know about how Donald Trump does business. It’s not about what he can build. It’s about how much he can take.” There is a clear contrast between Trump’s dangerous record with Clinton’s vision for an America that is stronger together and an economy that works for everyone, not just those at the top.
