Fire Department Trains In Rescue Scenarios

Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- Boat training at the Rich East High School pond, auto extrication training, other rescue scenarios are among activities reported by the Park Forest Fire Department for the week ending July 29. There were no major fire incidents reported, but there were 43 EMS calls and 17 fire/service calls. A total of 60 calls during the week.

Specifics follow.

Training Activities

On Monday, July 24, shift members completed a relay pumping drill. During this training activity, the shift was given two engines and a water supply and asked to demonstrate the ability to relay (in-line) pump.

On Tuesday, July 25, the shift completed boat training. This training included deploying our boat and equipment into the pond located at Rich East High School.

Wednesday, July 26 thru Friday, July 28, 2017, members completed auto extrication training. In these sessions, each shift was given a rescue scenario involving and automobile. On Friday evening, the POC division trained with the full-time members completing this auto extrication training.

Fire Prevention Bureau Activities

On July, 28, 2017, the Fire Prevention Captain attended a training and education summit on NFPA 25, Testing and Maintenance of Water Based Fire Protection Systems, sponsored by the Illinois Fire Inspectors Association, Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board, and the National Fire Sprinkler Association.

Other Activities

On Monday, the Fire Chief attended the bi-monthly Will County Fire Chief’s meeting. This meeting brings together chiefs and other representatives from across Will County to discuss issue pertinent to the fire and EMS services. This month’s topics included the discussion of legislation which would no longer require hard telephone lines being supplied to local customers and its impact on 9-1-1, the recent train derailment incident in Plainfield, and the continuing discussion of Fire/EMS responses to active shooters.

From Tuesday through Sunday, the Fire Chief attended the Fire Rescue International Conference in Charlotte, NC. This conference brings fire chiefs together from all over the world to discuss topics and issues associated with the fire and EMS services. Hundreds of educational sessions are presented, networking opportunities are established daily, and vendors are showing their wares in order to provide information for administrators. This conference was conducted in conjunction with the Carolina Fire Chiefs to offer more opportunities for each group.
