Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- In its activity for the week March 12 through 18, the Park Forest Fire Department reported on a fire on South Crawford Avenue.
The report follows.
The total responses for the week was: 73 (fire/service = 25, EMS = 48).
On Thursday, March 16, the fire department responded to a report of a fire on South Crawford Avenue. Though this address is outside of the village, it is within the fire department’s designated service area. Homes in this type of area pay for the services provided on an as-needed basis.
Units arrived on the scene of this fire to find flames coming from the roof and attic, apparently adjacent to the chimney for the wood burning stove. Firefighters were forced to pull the ceiling down over the wood burning stove and the siding and fascia boards off of the exterior of the one-story home to extinguish the fire.
Park Forest units were assisted on this fire by personnel from University Park, Richton Park and South Chicago Heights.
On Monday, March 13, shift members completed pre-plan training. On March 14, 15, and 16 shift members focused their training efforts on equipment location and tool uses. This training included a written test which allowed shift officers to gauge their shift’s knowledge on tool usage and equipment location.
On Friday, March 17, members of both the career and paid on call divisions spent the evening participating in a live-fire training exercise at the department’s training site.
Fire Prevention Bureau Activities
Members of the Fire Prevention Bureau competed 7 inspections this week.
Seven students participated in a CPR class held at the fire station on Saturday, March 18.
On Wednesday, the fire department hosted the WILCO Fire Chief’s Association/MABAS Division 27 monthly meeting. This meeting brings the fire departments in our region together to discuss issues at hand, special teams, box alarms and other items of concern. In addition to area fire chiefs, vendors are present to answer questions from the chiefs and discuss the services they provide.
This meeting is rotated throughout the division with a different department hosting the meeting each month.
On Saturday, March 18, the fire department participated in a fire service swap meet sponsored by the MABAS 7 Fire Investigation team. Staff took surplus equipment no longer of use to the department and sold it to other fire departments, collectors, etc. In addition to cleaning out some of the department’s storage areas, these funds will go back into the Village account to offset other expenses.
