Elgin, IL –(ENEWSPF)–August 28, 2014. On Wednesday, August 27th, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) hosted an Immigration Reform Roundtable at Elgin Community College. The Congresswoman brought together representatives from the State of Illinois, academia and immigration advocacy organizations to address issues related to the DREAM Act, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, and humanitarian concerns at the border.
The conversation also included students from Elgin Community College who shared their personal stories and experiences with immigration reform.
“I convened this group here today to send a message of how vital immigration reform is to our community and how we must move forward on this crucial issue,” Duckworth said. “I believe that immigration reform done right can make our great country even greater. It can provide opportunities for our businesses, make Americans safer, reunite families and let millions of Americans who are willing to make the necessary sacrifices achieve the American dream.”
