Congresswoman Robin Kelly: Hillary Clinton Will Best Address Health Disparities Facing Communities of Color

SOUTH CAROLINA—(ENEWSPF)—November 13, 2015. In Charleston, Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-2) continues to discuss many of the health disparities facing communities of color.  During her visit, Congresswoman Kelly is also highlighting her support for Hillary Clinton’s plans to expand access to health care and address gun violence as a public health issue.

“African Americans and their families face significant health disparities including higher rates of cancer, diabetes, and kidney disease. Even black infants die at a rate much higher than white infants in South Carolina. In addition, black Americans are twice as likely to die from gun violence. We must work to reduce these disparities and improve health outcomes nationwide.”

“For decades, Hillary Clinton has been on the forefront of combating health inequities. From her time addressing infant mortality in Southern states with then Governor Dick Riley to helping create the Children’s Health Insurance Program, Hillary has been on the forefront of fighting to end health inequities. As President, she will continue to fight to expand Medicaid in states like South Carolina, support rural health care programs, and lower out-of-pocket and prescription drug costs for seniors. We need her leadership to deliver on critical reforms to prevent gun violence, which is a public health crisis.”

Congresswoman Robin Kelly represents the 2nd Congressional District of Illinois. Since her election in 2013, she has worked to expand economic opportunity and promote public safety, sponsoring numerous bills to generate job growth and address gun violence.  She currently chairs the CBC’s Health Braintrust, which works to address health disparities and improve health outcomes for all Americans.
