Washington, DC—(ENEWSPF)—December 12, 2013. Congresswoman Robin Kelly issued the following statement on voting to pass the bipartisan House budget:
“Today I voted to pass the House budget, because I believe it makes positive steps in the right direction by providing relief from the sequester’s across-the-board spending cuts.
This bipartisan agreement clears a path for America to make critical investments in things like scientific research, and is a balanced way to address government spending without putting further strain on our economy.
This wasn’t a perfect bill. It doesn’t include everything I’d like, including an extension of unemployment insurance for the more than 1 million long-term jobless workers whose checks may be cut off at the end of this month. I hope my colleagues will soon address the need to extend unemployment insurance.
I also hope that the passage of the budget marks a turning point, and that Democrats and Republicans can further commit to supporting economic policies that protect our students, our seniors, and middle-class American families.”
