Congresswoman Duckworth Statement on House Passage of Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–October 29, 2015.  After the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Bipartisan Budget Agreement of 2015 by a vote of 266-167, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) issued the following statement:

“For too long, our government has jumped from manufactured crisis to manufactured crisis, from shutdown threat to actual shutdown. For at least the next two years, this Bipartisan Budget Act will remove the threat of another shutdown and preserve the full faith and credit of the United States. While not permanent, these are positive developments.

“This compromise equally provides relief from sequestration’s harmful cuts to defense and non-defense spending, helping create hundreds of thousands of jobs, providing our troops with the security they deserve, investing in Veterans’ care, supporting our children and protecting seniors from unprecedented Medicare premium increases.

“I do have serious concerns regarding several sections of the Bipartisan Budget Agreement, particularly those provisions that threaten to devastate farm communities. Moving forward, I will work with my colleagues across the aisle to mitigate these misguided policies.

“I join Republicans and Democrats alike to pass this multi-year, compromise budget not because it is perfect—it is clearly not—but because it will turn the page on partisan brinksmanship that needlessly hurts the American people and finally allow us to focus on solving the underlying problems that prevent our economy from reaching its top gear. That is in everyone’s best interest.”
