Congresswoman Duckworth Cosponsors Bipartisan Legislation to Prevent Medicare Fraud

Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–July 19, 2013.

On July 19,  Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (IL-08) announced her cosponsorship of the Preventing and Reducing Improper Medicare and Medicaid Expenditures (PRIME) Act of 2013. The bipartisan legislation was introduced by Congressman Peter Roskam (IL-06). The PRIME Act would enact stronger penalties for Medicare and Medicaid fraud and help prevent improper or mistaken payments for the programs.  It will also improve the sharing of fraud data across state and federal agencies and programs.

“My neighbors sent me to Washington to reach across the aisle to cut waste and fraud and protect programs that assist working families,” said Duckworth. “The PRIME Act takes important steps toward these goals by reforming Medicare and Medicaid so that it will save taxpayers billions of dollars a year. I know how important the guaranteed benefit of Medicare is to seniors and this legislation will help secure the financial stability of this vital program. I look forward to working with both Democrats and Republicans to help pass the PRIME Act.”
