All Chicago and the Chicago Association of REALTORS® to Build Furniture for Chicago Families Who Have Experienced Homelessness

All Chicago

Chicago, IL –(ENEWSPF)—September 11, 2017.  Nearly 6,000 Chicagoans don’t have a place to call home. Tens of thousands more are on the brink, living paycheck to paycheck, just one unexpected setback away from homelessness. For many families, a single financial setback like job loss or unforeseen medical expenses can become the catalyst for serious cycle of crisis and the eventual loss of their financial security and housing stability. When families do transition out of homelessness, they often do not have essentials to make their house a home.

On September 12, The Chicago Association of REALTORS® Young Professionals Network (YPN), in partnership with All Chicago Making Homelessness History, is hosting a Furniture Build Out. The event will to provide twenty households with four pieces of furniture and a care package with cleaning materials and other household items. New City Moving will host the build out and deliver the furniture to families who have recently moved from shelter into their new homes.

“Transitioning into a permanent home from homelessness brings with it enormous challenges, and it is often a tumultuous time for a household. We assist participants with this transition, but additional home amenities like furniture, which make all the difference when creating a new home, can be difficult to acquire,” says Margaret Smith, Rapid Re-Housing Program Coordinator at All Chicago. “The furniture this project will provide will help individuals and families who are navigating this life shift to truly feel at home in their new space, the value of which cannot be underestimated.”

“Chicago Realtors work incredibly hard, every day, to help our clients find homes and be stewards of our many different communities, so this is an excellent chance to give back and fulfill our mission,” Lindsey Schendel, Chair of the Chicago Association of REALTORS® Young Professionals Network and broker at Main Street Real Estate Group, said. “YPN is proud to partner with All Chicago by providing furniture and necessities to ease the transition of those exiting homelessness as they settle into their new surroundings with dignity and hope.”

The YPN is a growing group of career-minded real estate professionals who want to stay abreast of the latest tools, resources and networking opportunities available to them as REALTORS®.
