Cheryle Jackson Edges Giannoulias in Rich Township

Cook County, IL–(ENEWSPF)– According to unofficial township and precinct level election results for suburban Cook County, Cheryle Jackson edged Alexi Giannoulias by six votes for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate in Rich Township. Jackson captured 4,958 votes, or 41.02%, to 4,652 votes, or 40.97%, taken by Giannoulias. Giannoulias dominated in Bloom Township with 4,512 votes, or 43.86%, to 3,187, or 30.98% taken by Jackson.

In the Democratic primary for Governor, Governor Quinn took 6,751 votes, or 56.56%, in Rich Township, to 5,185, or 43.44% for Comptroller Dan Hynes. Hynes edged Quinn in Bloom Township with 5,162 votes, or 50.16%, to 5,130, or 49.84% for Governor Quinn.

In the Democratic primary for Lieutenant Governor, Scott Lee Cohen won in Bloom Township with 26.64% of the vote, while Arthur L. Turner prevailed in Rich Township with 29.65% of the vote.

Robin Kelly took high honors in Rich Township, trouncing Justin Oberman 78.36% to 21.64%. Kelly also won strong in Bloom Township with 65.57% of the vote to Oberman’s 34.43%.

Rich and Bloom Townships were also good to David Miller. Miller captured 57.48% of the vote in Bloom, and 56.64% of the vote in Rich.

According to the Cook County Clerk’s office, results may change due to provisional and late-arriving absentee ballots. Absentee ballots postmarked by midnight on Feb. 1 will be added to the results if they arrive within two weeks of the election. About 800 provisional ballots will be individually checked and, if validated, added to the tally.

By law, every Illinois election jurisdiction must certify its results to the State Board of Elections by Feb. 23. For information about Chicago results, please visit chicagoelections.com.
