Attacking Dog Shot by Owner

Park Forest, IL–(ENEWSPF)– Residents hearing gunfire in the area of Niagara and Miami streets last Monday were actually listening to a pet owner trying to protect himself from his attacking dog.

Police were dispatched to the area of Niagara and Miami streets in reference to report of shots fired on July 21. A resident reported that his dog, a Cane Corso, had tried to attack him and he shot the dog, firing three times, according to police.

The resident reported that the dog had been acting unusually aggressive and had lunged at his face.

The resident used his handgun, which he had been cleaning, according to police. When police arrived, the dog was severely injured but still alive.

Due to the dog’s condition, the owner requested that the responding officer put the dog out of its misery, and the Watch Commander approved. The responding officer shot the dog. A check through LEADS showed that the resident had a valid FOID card. There were no charges against the resident, and there will be no further action on th matter, according to police.
