Park Forest, IL-(ENEWSPF)- The Park Forest 211th Street Metra Lot will close September 1, 2018. The last day of operation for the lot will be August 31.

Erin Brogan, the administrative assistant to the director of Park Forest Public Works, sent an email to Village staff which was then disseminated Friday by Monica DeLord of the Department of Economic and Planning.

“If you have not been informed already, it has been determined by the Village that the Metra parking lot located at 211th street off Rt. 30 will be officially closed as of September 1st, 2018,” the email said.

Ms. Brogan goes on to say that Public Works anticipates the closure of the lot will be permanent, “unless other circumstances call for it to be reopened.”

“Patrons of this parking lot can, and are encouraged to, now use the parking lot located off North Street and Homan Avenue,” the email from Ms. Brogan said.

The lot located off North Street and Homan Avenue has a capacity of 500 cars and parking is only $1.25 per day.

The question as to whether to keep the lot open or close it generally surfaced at every budget discussion going back years. The Village also has plans to develop all of the property from the Metra tracks on Route 30 east to Indianwood Boulevard should the right developer express an interest. Traffic counts along Route 30 are very high.

Anyone with questions about the closing of the lot is asked to call the Public Works office at 708-503-7702.
