Washington, DC–(ENEWSPF)–September 16, 2014. Yesterday Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley released the following statement after a Senate minority used a filibuster to once again block a vote on the Paycheck Fairness Act, legislation that would help ensure equal pay for equal work for all Americans:
“Paying women the same as men is a matter of basic justice, not to mention an important pocketbook issue for women and families in Oregon and nationwide. Equal pay doesn’t just mean fairness; for many women, it means food on the table, gas in the tank, and the mortgage or rent paid on time. When women succeed, America succeeds. We have to create more economic security for women, raise wages for women and their families, and ensure working families have a fair shot to get ahead. Equal pay for equal work is an important place to start, and I am deeply disappointed in my colleagues who decided not to stand up for women by blocking the Paycheck Fairness Act.”
