Representative Schakowsky Statement on Final Benghazi Report

Washington, DC –(ENEWSPF)—August 1, 2014. Rep. Jan Schakowsky released the following statement about the House Permanent Select Intelligence Committee’s adoption of its final Benghazi Report:

“I am pleased the House Intelligence Committee has approved a comprehensive, bipartisan report concluding that there was no intelligence failure surrounding the September 11, 2012 attack on our facility in Benghazi, Libya.

As ranking member of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, I took part in the extensive, exhaustive investigation that led to this report. I believe its conclusions should lay to rest all the baseless charges surrounding this tragedy that resulted in killing of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other brave Americans.

We have the facts – our Committee conducted many hours of interviews with eyewitnesses and intelligence officials, including security personnel on the ground that night.  The committee spent thousands of hours poring over documents and reading emails, notes, cables, videos and intelligence assessments.  We explored every shred of evidence available.

The bipartisan report is definitive – there was no intelligence failure surrounding the attacks, no cover up, no illegal activity, and no evidence that the Intelligence Community’s assessments were politically motivated in any way.

I want to thank House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rogers and Ranking Member Ruppersberger for their devotion to finding out exactly what happened, and moving forward with this report.  I look forward to a prompt declassification review by the Intelligence Community so that the report will be available to everyone.”
