President Obama: All U.S. Troops Will be Out of Iraq by End of the Year, Oct. 21, 2011

Washington, DC—(ENEWSPF)—October 21, 2011.  President Obama has just announced that the United States will withdraw almost all its troops from Iraq by the end of this year.

The President said that he had spoken with Iraq Prime Minister al-Maliki and said that as of January 1, 2012, the two countries would begin “a normal relationship between sovereign nations.”  Obama said that the United States “will have a strong, enduring partnership with Iraq.”

There are currently 41,000 U.S. troops in Iraq.  Only about 150 troops are expected to remain in Iraq to assist in arms sales.

According to Iraq Body Count, more than 4,400 American military lives have been lost since the start of the war in March of 2003, and more than 100,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed.
