40th Annual Fossil, Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show Coming to PSC

Chicago Heights, IL–(ENEWSPF)– The South Suburban Earth Science Club celebrates their 40th Annual South Suburban Earth Science Club’s Fossil, Gem, Mineral and Jewelry Show on Saturday and Sunday, October 17th and 18th, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The show is held on the first floor in the gym at Prairie State College, 202 South Halsted St., Chicago Heights, IL . The school is fully accessible to the handicapped.

The Prairie State Department of Natural Science hosts the event. Admission is free.

SSESC invites everyone to attend and enjoy viewing the many displays which include gems, minerals, fossils and artifacts. Dealer’s exhibits include unique hand made jewelry, gems, minerals, fossils and more.

Demonstrations on fossil preparation and cleaning will be done on a handmade micro blasting cabinet made by club member, Daniel Bolm of Crete. Club member Jan Podbielski, Peotone, will share his lapidary skills and the steps in making jewelry.

Jeri’s Rock Shop’s booth holds many treasures which include a special “Virgin Mary” rock that has been touched by over 950 people to help bring them happiness. Rock also has a meteorite that is billions of years old.

Throughout the weekend, Mr. Joel Knapper, NASA Ambassador, will speak on “Celebrating the First 50 Years of the Space Program”.

Other highlights include assistance to Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts in earning their Geology Badge, a children’s activity area and an informative and fun program by the ME4E organization.

Tours of the science labs will be available.

Raffles will be held throughout the weekend with the proceeds being donated to the Prairie State Student Science Scholar Ship Program.
