Gun Greets Officer At Door

Park Forest, IL—(ENEWSPF)— A Park Forest officer reacted quickly while responding to a 911 call last week when he was greeted at the door with a handgun pointed at him.

On Tuesday, January 29 at 12:24 a.m., Officers William Busse and Paul Shulman were dispatched to 50 Indianwood Blvd. to investigate a 911 call. While en route, dispatchers advised the officers they had a male subject on 911 whispering and advising that somebody was attempting to break into his residence. Dispatch further related the offenders returned to their vehicle, an older model gray Oldsmobile, and were leaving the area.

Officer Schulman arrived on the scene and observed no vehicles matching that description. Shulman approached and knocked on the door to the victim’s residence. The door was answered by a subject holding a chrome colored handgun. He was pointing the firearm at Officer Schulman, according to police. Shulman immediately drew his handgun and ordered the subject to drop the weapon.

The subject dropped the firearm to the ground.

Schulman called for assistance. Officer Busse arrived on the scene and recovered the firearm. The firearm was unloaded, containing no magazine. Officer Shulman ordered the subject, later identified as Whitney T. Sheally, 23, 948 W. 195th St., Chicago Heights, to exit the residence. Sheally was taken into custody for further investigation. A woman at the residence was released at the scene without charges.

Officer Schulman transported Sheally to the Park Forest Police Department. A LEADS inquiry on the gun indicated that the weapon had been reported stolen from Crete, IL.

Sheally was charged with possession of a firearm without a FOID card.
