Donald Trump’s pick for Health and Human Services secretary is yet another sign that 20 million people can say bye-bye to their health insurance. Meet Rep. Tom Price:

A former chairman of the conservative Republican study committee, Price has been affiliated with the House tea party caucus and has lambasted what he termed a “vile liberal agenda that is threatening everything we hold dear as Americans.” His congressional website describes him as “devoted to limited government and lower spending.”

“He’s the HHS secretary you’d pick if you were dead serious about dismantling the law,” Sarah Kliff writes. His “Empowering Patients First Act”:

… would replace the law with a plan that does more to benefit the young, healthy, and rich — and disadvantages the sick, old, and poor. Price’s plan provides significantly less help to those with preexisting conditions than other Republican proposals, particularly the replacement plan offered by House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI).

The biggest cut to the poor in Price’s plan is the full repeal of the Medicaid expansion, a program that currently covers millions of low-income Americans, which Price replaces with, well, nothing.

Also Price wants to end Medicare as we know it, which may be one of the reasons Speaker Paul Ryan is so enthusiastic about him.
