WASHINGTON –(ENEWSPF)–December 7, 2016.  President-elect Trump announced today that he intends to appoint Oklahoma attorney general, and close fossil fuel industry ally, Scott Pruitt to head the Environmental Protection Agency.

350.org Executive Director May Boeve issued the following response:

“You couldn’t pick a better fossil fuel industry puppet. Pruitt formed a secret alliance with oil and coal companies to gut our environmental regulations and has defended ExxonMobil’s climate cover-up. This is a man who cares more about the profits of coal company CEOs than the health of our children or the future of our planet.

Pruitt’s appointment reveals Trump’s climate flip-flopping and meetings with Gore as nothing more than a smokescreen. This is an administration that is dead set on putting polluters ahead of people every single time. The EPA should be limiting carbon pollution and putting the brakes on reckless oil and gas development — not defending Big Oil and putting the planet’s future at risk.”

350.org helped lead a campaign to push back on the appointment of climate-change denier Myron Ebell as head of the EPA, collecting tens of thousands of signatures and projecting the message, “Don’t Appoint a Climate Denier as Head of the EPA” on the front of the agency headquarters in Washington, D.C.

350 is the red line for human beings, the most important number on the planet. The most recent science tells us that unless we can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million, we will cause huge and irreversible damage to the earth. But solutions exist. All around the world, a movement is building to take on the climate crisis, to get humanity out of the danger zone and below 350. This movement is massive, it is diverse, and it is visionary. We are activists, scholars, and scientists. We are leaders in our businesses, our churches, our governments, and our schools. We are clean energy advocates, forward-thinking politicians, and fearless revolutionaries. And we are united around the world, driven to make our planet livable for all who come after us.
